Scientific
research shows, that
germinal cells from
umbilical cord blood
are able to transform
to different cell types
– bone cells, brain
cells, heart cells,
insulin producing cells
and more. However,
in clinical practice,
only the haematopoietic
cells - germinal cells
from umbilical cord
blood are currently
being used. These can
be found in the bone
marrow of children
and adults, and during
the whole life they
multiply and give rise
to blood cells (red
blood cells for carrying
the oxygen throughout
the body; white blood
cells for fighting
against infectious
agents; and platelets
for clotting).
