Haematopoietic cells transplantation

Haematopoietic cells are used for transplant in cases of serious haematopoiesis damage. Haematopoietic cells reside in bone marrow, so it is usually named bone marrow transplantation. Only the bone marrow of adult donors were used for transplantation, before the haematopoietic cells in umbilical blood were discovered. Haematopoiesis in bone marrow can be impaired by multiple diseases, or as a consequence of chemotherapy treatment for cancers. Transplanted personal or foreign haematopoietic cells recover the patient’s haematopoiesis, which allows him a quality return to normal life.
