CORD BLOOD CENTER Group's Public banking
Registry of placental cord blood cells (Eurocord) is a civil association established in 1997. The main objective of Eurocord is to provide the largest possible use of cord blood for therapeutical purposes and research. Eurocord is an association legally approved by the Ministry of Health of Slovak Republic.
Eurocord operates as a cord blood bank – bank for private storing of cord blood (family cord blood banking) as well as a bank for public storing of cord blood.
- The public bank (registry) gains the cord blood from voluntary donors in Slovak Republic. The cord blood is consequently provided for record in the international cord blood database, where it is available to patients worldwide.
- Bank for private storing (family cord blood banking) provides families the possibility to store the cord blood of their child solely for the use of the child itself or even for the child's siblings.
There is a specialized laboratory operated by Eurocord. The laboratory itself is equipped by special processing facilities to allow to process and store the cord blood stem cells and bone marrow.
To this day, Eurocord has processed cord blood for the very first patient in Europe, who was able to gain treatment using his own cord blood. Eurocord has also provided cord blood for transplant surgery from siblings and has also donated cord blood for patients abroad.
Eurocord is an active member of the international organizations BMDW, NetCord and WMDA, cooperating in the field of stem cell donors and transplantation while setting the highest standards for product quality from stem cell banks.
