Why store cord blood?

  • Cord blood is collected at the beginning of life when cord blood stem cells are young and unspoiled, unaffected by  illnesses, drugs or aging;
  • Privately stored cord blood is reserved solely for the child it has been collected from or in  case of HLA match the cord blood can be used for the child´s siblings;
  • Cord blood is ready for immediate use. Quick access to haematopoietic stem cells can significantly increase the chances of recovery;
  • Genetic identity - as it is the child’s own blood there is no risk of severe complications after cord blood application;
  • The lifetime probability of using your own (autologous) stem cells is 1:400.*
